I just purchased a new jib sale for the furler that is also being installed on my sailboat. The sail came without a ring at the top of the sail. It just has a heavy duty woven loop about an inch wide that won't fit into my halyard. How do I attach the sail to the halyard?

how about a larger shackle?

Jerel: How about a larger shackle for the halyard? Otherwise you can take your sail to a sailmaker and have him retrofit something that will work.

Furler

What make is your furler? If it is a CDI it has an internal halyard and the manufacturer recomends the sail have a web loop at the head.

Furling jib rigging

My furling jib also has the woven straps at both the top and very bottom of the jib. These straps however do not attach to the halyard. The top strap attaches to a shackle on the lower part of the jib furler swivel. The jib halyard attaches to another shackle at the top of the jib furler swivel. The strap at the bottom (tack) of the sail attaches to a shackle on the furler drum itself.

The "Loop"?

I have seen that webbed loop get sun-burned to the point of breaking on a H456. You might want to check it out, first

Attaching "The Loop"

Insert another shackle between the halyard and the Loop that will fit the Loop and also the halyard shackle. But be careful - sometimes that lengthens the halyard and you may begin to get halyard-wrap at the swivel. The solution is the add a halyard "retainer" to the mast to increase the angle of the pull on the swivel that may eliminate the wrapping of the halyard.
