I've searched through a lot of forum entries but haven't seen where anyone has used a CDI Flexible Furler on a H34. Anyone have experience with CDI furlers?

The boat might be a tad too big. Have you checked their website for sizing?

The model FF9.0 can be installed on headstays up to 53 feet and wire size 1/4, 9/32, & 5/16. The turnbuckle size indicated is 1/2" and ??? most 5/8" ???

I don't recall what my forestay sizes are but I understand its 46 feet long.

Help on the other sizes from anyone would be appreciated. My H34 has been under snow and ice since Friday.

At SBO prices it would look like a good decision to buy the superior product, I like Harken also.
I will be installing the furler and after reviewing both installation instructions and considering the time I will have with the boat out of water, I don't want to undertake the ESP install.
Several places will sell the FF9.0 for 1209.00 and it is installed by fishing your headstay through a one piece foil. It is got to be better than converting one or two of my old sails to hankons.
Thanks for the suggestion.

If you find one that's really for sale at $1209, grab it fast. That's last year's pricing and those will be changed soon, I'm sure. ;)

Either of those furlers will require a sail with a #6 luff tape.

Thanks for your reply Phil. I wasn't going to buy the CDI until I was ready to install it and have found the prices are not staying low.
I've turned my attention to the Harken ESP 1. I guess when I have my boat hauled out this spring I could have the yard remove the forestay to check the pin to pin length. I understand there's some adjustment at the bottom so does anyone on this forum know what the pin length might be?
I have been thinking the foil could be constructed one section at a time in front of the boat while its on stands and pulled to the top with a spare halyard.
Comments anyone?

I put CDI Flex Furlers on my Hunter 23 and 31 and enjoyed them. For the 34 and 36 I had Keys Rigging install the Harken ESP furlers. Having used both, I fault the CDI plastic luff groove for wearing over time as the sail is taken down and reinstalled, however, the overall durability and ease of installation is superior.
The Harken ESP is much smoother and easier in heavy winds on the bigger boats.
I'd go with the Harken on the 34.
I would caution against measuring the rig out of the water and then cutting or building a new forestay on that measurement. The boat WILL change shape afloat. That's why final rig tensions must be set in the water.

When I did my furler, I went with a Harken. I also upsized the wire in the headstay. The B & R rig is vulnerable to headstay failure, so going with a bit more wire makes some sense.
