If you hang a bag of steel cans to be recycled so it hangs right over that thing I guarantee you'll have some truely bizarre readings/behaviour from your autopilot! Now how would I know that? Surely I couldn't have been that dense...

Interesting Location
In the picture it looks like it's against the forward bulkhead of the aft berth storage area. I think I remember that the the Autohelm manual advises to locate it down low, and centered in the boat, away from large metal masses. I've found it kind of tough to find a place like that on the C310.
