The Admiral says I can organize loads of electronics for my 2006 373! A chartplotter in the binnacle and radar are at the top of my list. From those of you who have been through the process, what are the two or three things you think you got right, and what are a couple of things you would change if you had the chance?

Nice Admiral!

You have a nice Admiral! Well you already have the chartplotter and radar on the list. I would assume you already have the depth/speed/wind instruments as well as autopilot. If not I'd add them to the list. With all that I'd think you'll be in pretty good shape. If she's still open to some more goodies go for a stereo that handles MP3s and has an iPod connection. Perhaps satellite as well. Santa helped me upgrade the stereo with all those goodies last year and during the summer I changed out the stock Beneteau speakers for Polks. Changed both the salon and cockpit sets and am very pleased with the improved sound. I passed on the sub woofer for now due to lack of a decent location for it. Really don't need it anyway. Now I either dial up a sat station or the iPod and enjoy all the tunes I can handle. Mike PS where are you in Baltimore? We winter over at Inner Harbor East.

AIS

I assume you got wind, depth and speed with the boat as well as the chart plotter and autopilot. Next is RADAR. All these are nice, but in your area where you encounter a lot of shipping traffic, you should have AIS. This will give you information concerning the course, speed, closest point of approach, vessels destination and a bunch of other information. The Raymarine unit is expensive, but it is plug and play and in my estimation, well worth the price. Jim

Loads of Shipping

Thanks for the AIS suggestion, I'll look into. I'm in and out of the Pataspsco River on the Ches. Bay all the time, and the ships are everywhere.
