My 1986 Hunter 31 has two organizers with two lines each, one starboard and one port. I want to add a third line to each side which requires either a new single line organizer or replacement of the double with a triple. The headliner does not allow me to see the deck from below so am not sure if the existing organizers are screwed or bolted to the deck. Does anyone have any knowledge of replacement of the existing organizers?

On my 34 there is an aluminum back plate under the FB. No need to remove the headliner. I suspect the 31 is the same way. Maybe Steve Dion can chime in to let you know. If yes then all you have to do is remove the old one, pencil in where you want the new (you may be able to use the same size bolts and use one of the threaded holes), and carefully drill new hole until you are through the aluminum back plate, then tap new threads into it. Not a very hard project ! Good luck

As Claude mentions, there is a alum plate imbedded in the fiberglass. I think you have a Schafer organizer. You may want to think about replacing it with a triple of the same brand or you can take you existing one to Garhauer Marine and they will make you a new one with the same centers.

All you need to do is drill and tap a hole for the new organizer. Use some caulk or butyl tape to bed it and you will be good to go. I did this on my H'31 several years ago.

I think that the screws are 1/4 x 20. When you remove the old screws you can check them out.

You could replace your double organizers with a stacked double. You would have a spare sheeve, but there's nothing wrong with that. I did this a few years ago on my '82 H30. Had doubles, needed triple, but the aluminum plates in the deck, which are identifiable on my cherubini by the raised pads on the deck at all hardware attachment areas, were sized only for doubles. If you do have the aluminum plate in the deck, you need to confirm that it is long enough to switch from double to triple organizers. I got mine from Garhuaer.

I did this on my H34 about 5-6 years ago. I had Schaefer organizers as Steve mentioned and replaced them with new Schaefer double stacked organizers on each side of my boat. Didn't have to drill new holes, they fit right where the old ones were located. Works great.

I did the same with my triples, I now have stacked triples on each side. A little tuff getting screws out, they screw in but the are also nuts on the bottom end, you can see them when the light fixtures are removed. Need to get longer bolts to make up for the extra height be adding a organizer.
