Cutless Bearing
I replaced my cutless bearing 2 years ago. I did it myself so the cost in parts was less than $50. I used the old fashoned brut force method of removal. The Strut Pro device was too expensive. I tried to make something similar but it didn't work. my bearing was very badly worn and thin. It was a lot of work.1. remove the rudder, prop, and shaft.2. remove the set screws holding the bearing in, on the port side of the strut.2. use a hacksaw to cut through the bearing in at least two places. Be very careful not to cut into the strut.3. use a chisel, and hammer to pry the old bearing out of the strut. When hammering try to keep the stress on the strut to a minimum4. clean the shaft and the inside of the strut, it needs to be smooth and clean. 5. apply a thin layer of oil or light grease to tghe inside of the strut.6. insert the new bearing, it may have to be pressed in using two long bolts and some steel angle bar strips. Do not hammer it in. If it is too difficult to insert, remove it and clean (hone) the interior of the strut further. It took me several days to remove my old bearing.
