I just finished my day by day blog of our cruise from Maine to Washington DC on a Catalina 27 last summer. It took us two and a half weeks, and was a lot of fun. Check out the photos, and post comments. Let me know if you have any questions about specific places.

Hi Phil,
What would you have liked to have onboard to make the trip more comfortable? Would you do it again the same way?

Nice Job!! It would have been nicer if you started your blog as you left Maine not (Main) and ended in DC.

I would have liked shore power and a refrigerator. We went through ice very quickly once it got warm.

Otherwise, I would do it again the same way!

That is well done and I enjoyed both legs. It was two legs for me, from Maine to New York harbor that I have never done. Then New York to Washington which I did in 2007. It was fun reading about and seeing those familiar spots. Someday I hope that I can do NY to Maine.

We also enjoyed Barnegat Bay, Atlantic City, and Utsch's in Cape May. But we left from behind Lady Liberty so had one earlier stop in NJ at Manasquan. We took two days in Delaware Bay, went way up a river the first evening out of Cape May. Then to the end of the canal at Chesapeake City the next day. After a long stop in Annapolis for the boat show I also had dinner at the Naughty Gull while tied up at Spring Cove Marina. From there our cruises diverge since I was going to Norfolk and on to NC.

And for "bria46" you can follow the trip from Maine to DC by going to the bottom of the "Archives" to start. Then use "next". Really well done. Four years now and I still have not done anything like that. And I have all the pictures and logs.

2 1/2 weeks seems fast to me. Did you feel rushed, a lot of long days?
I've never sailed that area but I'm heading there soon.

Thanks

Phil,
Nice cruise, great pics. I dream of doing a cruise like that someday. No stress, no fuss, just enjoying many stops along the way. To me " Sailing is not just geting from point A - point B, but its about the dash "-", the stuff in between, enjoying it as you go. From your blogs I can tell you had a great DASH.

Phil,
I am about half way through reading your blog. I am also a Catalina 27 owner, 1984 std rig, and have been wanting to take a trip beyond the Barnegat bay. Your photos and story are reassuring me that the Catalina 27 is a viable boat for off shore hops down the coast. I am looking forward to finishing your story and hope to plan my own!

Thanks! The Catalina 27 is a very sturdy boat. I just survived wintering aboard, and I still love it.
