I just purchased a 1990 Cat 30. Wonderful boat, but old, dirty carpet needs replaced. Prefer the look of teak, but would live with high quality replacement carpet. All suggestions welcome.

Local carpet store

Carpet in a boat can get trashed pretty quickly. I would talk to a local carpet dealer for a quote on cutting & binding it as opposed to finding a marine dealer. Use the old carpet as a template & cut it yourself - just have them bind. Buy a nice pile carpet & it'll catch all the sand & dirt. Berber might not as much but it isn't as soft. Of course you could buy a cheaper carpet & just replace it every few years. LaDonna

not on our boat

I'm sorry guys, but I just can't see carpet on our C-30 - too much like carpeting a toilet. In fact, the carpet I pulled out when we bought our boat included a piece for the head - gross! What's wrong with the non-skid gelcoat? I keep ours clean with various cleaners and am content with that. But if you must have something "better" try this link: ftp://ftp.sailnet.com/c30/gregg-johnson/ Hope this helps, Roger Noble C-30 # 3725, "Amazing Grace" Lake Travis, Austin, Texas

Carpeting in your boat

Hi, I have a 380, my previous boat was a 36 and I carpeted it. I'm a journeyman liscensed carpet installer. The carpet is easy to install, if you choose to do it yourself. I would suggest a "cut" berber and place non skid under it. Yes, it will be exposed to foot traffic and dirt, sand etc., however it is easy enough to take outside and shake clean. Use a tapers knife (utility knife) and lay the carpet so it overlaps all the areas to be covered. Then kneel on it so it remains stationary and rough cut it to the size you need. Then fold it back from the wall and while keeping it close to the wall cut it from the back. Always cut it from the back!!!!! I would serge the the edges. It gives a more professional look and keep it in two sections, so it is easy to remove for cleaning. If you need some specific info on some of the carpets on the market just email me and I will be happy to make professional suggestions to you. sail1752@aol.com good luck Gary

Love my teak floor

The guy that owned my Cat. 30 before did the floor in solid teak strips 2" wide x 1/2" thick. He did a great job and it really sold me on the boat. I wish I knew who he hired in case I need to replace any of the pieces. The challenge is the uneven floor and how you work the splices. Good luck, Jeffr
