new cal 22 ! yikes !

HI i just bought a 1975 cal 22 !upon interior inspection i found a crank under one of the seat boards?what in the heck is this for ?ther is a crank for lowering the keel as you enter the pitt, but i cannot figure out what this other crank is for ?and one other question.the cockpit has 2 drains and it the drain pipe goes under and there is a leverthat goes right to left or up to down.which way is open and which way is closed?and where does this drain water go to ?thanks for your help.as you can see im a new sailor !!!!!!!!thankscaptkimm

hello captkim, is this crank the handle for one of your winches? That would be the only other thing on a 22 that would need a crank handle.the drain handle should be, left to right to close the drain, up and down to open the drain,however, if you fill the cockpit with water, you can test it for actual operation,and it runs straight out the bottom of the boatGood luckjohn
