just got an estimate that my new cabin sole would require 80 hours work. Seems REALLY high to me. It might take me that long, but not a professional, right?

I dont know what kind of sole you have. My 1979 hunter 30 had a fiberglass sole with 1/4 in teak laminate on top.
All i had to do was remove the old wood, scrape and sand the sole , then cut and fit the new wood .

once cut to fit I screwed it down rather than glue it.

Material was abt $350.00 and time was abt 3 days start to finish myself.
I would definately get another estimate.

Chuck,

Thanx for your article...I am redoing my floors on a 37c. Where can I find the wood? do you know the exact thickness of the wood.

Thanx

Bob,
Some things I did to make the replacement go quicker. I bought a sheet of teak/holy 1/2 marine ply wood. (it's available from the web) I had a pro paint the panel, 2 coats of Interlux Cetol, both sides and 3 coats of a Gym Seal (for basketball floors). I hate to paint anything in the bottom of the boat. I used the old flooring panels, where they were screwed for router templates. Use double stick tape, then place them on the new ply and use a template following router bit to make the cuts. Make sure to layout all the pieces before you cut the first panel. Make sure to aline the strips. Some of the panels were glued, there it was chisel and hammer. Those required a paper template. At $350 per sheet teak/holy ply is expensive to screw up, consider making templates out of 1/4 inch mdf and fit each one.

Good Luck
