Dear Owners, Can anyone clear up some rumors I've been hearing regarding Catalina Warranties? First, is it true that if you buy a new boat from a dealer say in N.J. and transport it to your home port of N.Y. and there is a Warrantee problem, you have to bring it back to N.J.? Second, if you buy a new boat and decide to have the optional electronics installed by someone OTHER than the factory / dealer certain warranties become void?

They have a road show

I have a new Catalina, and while it is still in the marina from which it was launched, I have seen a number of new boats get launched and move on. I khow that not only does the dealer go on the road from time to time to take care of warranty issues, Catalina themselves has a road crew that deals with warranty issues which the dealer may not feel comfortable with. As for electronic warranties, I can see certain warranties becoming void if the after market electronics installation interfaces with the manufacturer installed electronics. At that point each of the manufacutrers will blame the other and the installation.

Dealers should work things out

In your example, if you bought a boat in NJ and keep it in NY, the dealer that sold you the boat will either send a mechanic from their yard to do the repair, or contract it out to a marina close to you. Either way, you shouldn't have to pay for anything. Usually, when you bought the boat, things like this are discussed up front.

Pretty sure the warrantee goes with you

Why don't you call Catalina directly and ask. Ask for Frank Bulter (President of Co.) and ask directly, he'll give you the direct answer. 818-884-7700 www.catalinayachts.com I think the concern of some dealers is that you'll by a boat somewhere else (lets say Maryland) and that dealer gets all the commission and profits, but then 1 week later you bring your boat up to LI Sound and have the local dealer up here fixing all your little stuff. So he spends all that time and effort , but gets nothing from it.

Thanks Everyone

Thank you people. Tom, thanks for the phone number. I will give Mr. Butler a call. If I can't speak with him directly I'm sure some one can help.
