Are there any members here? I'm in the process of buying a house in New Bedford.

Thanks,

Are you buying in New Bedford or Padanaram? We've put in to NBYC in Padanaram a few times. Pleasant staff. Outside of the club and a marina next door, little there since Concordia stopped building. We found a snack bar/ice cream stand and some pretty houses. It's relatively open to the south, which makes them jittery in storms. (Hurricanes have put almost the entire harbor contents onto the train tracks.) New Bedford itself offers more facilities and better protection.

I keep my boat in Westport, MA, and will probably continue to do so. I'm buying in New Bedford, about 3.5 miles from the New Bedford Yacht Club, which is actually in South Dartmouth, and on a harbor called Padanaram. (It's only quite recently that the name "Padanaram" showed up on a chart or map.). It's about 20 miles on the water from Westport. My mooring in Westport is very well protected, I think.

I don't belong to NBYC but I have called on Padanaram many times. There is wicked current in there when the tide is running due I think to the large water north of the bridge. The NBYC is lovely, and hospitable. But we have had a helluva time picking up their moorings.
