New anchoring technique

We were in Covered Portage Cove this summer with about 35 other boats. That meant there wasn't a lot of room left. In comes this 50 ft power boat and anchors in a small open spot. 5 minutes later a 40 ft power boat comes in and rafts to the 50 ft boat. 5 minutes later a 35 ft boat arrives and rafts to the 40 ft boat. Still only one anchor out. There was a fair wind blowing and they started to encroach on the boat behind them as they swung. They decide to move. However they do not separate but pull up the anchor and try to manouver through all the other boats to the far end of the cove, with only the 50 ft with the power on and at the end of the raft. We watched in amazement and trepidation as this raft proceeded through the maze of boats to the new anchoring spot. They did make it, and we were able to relax again

Power boat anchoring

My wife and I were anchored in Snug Harbor and watched in amazement as two groups of powerboats came in and rafted to the first boat that came in and set a small danforth and tied to shore. The first group had roughly 15 boats up to 40 footers and the second group had around 10. I'd have never believed that many boats could hang on one anchor! Makes me think maybe I've been overdoing it (not!). It was their civic weekend and they were in party mode so we left first thing the next morning. Dan Arsenault Serendipity Too

Difference between powerboats and sailboats

Remember that powerboats do not have all that ballast that sailboats need, so if you want to compare 40' boats, it would take a number powerboats to equal the mass of a sailboat with her ballast.
