The anchor roller provided on my '90, 30' Hunter is, to be kind, minimal. Has anyone replaced (or added) a full size bow roller? Need a bruce type anchor in northwest waters.

Bow roller

I put a nice heavy bow roller for my Bruce on my 27, no problem...

Bow Roller setup

On my Hunter Vision 32, space is also limited: have installed a bow roller URM-2 (page 544 West Marine catalogue), I had it re-enforced with stainless stell plates) and bolted through the fiberglass. I attempted to reach it from the inside but gave up, it is not possible. I simply drilled a large 6" hole with a plastic cover, like for a gas intake or electrical unit, reached inside to secure through bolts, screwed the cap on and was all done, it took less than an hour. Worked extremely well with a Bruce 44 lbs. (could have put a Bruce 33, as recommended, but I like to sleep at night). I installed the system on the port side of the roller furling, kept the starboard roller for a Danforth secondary anchor. Sleep tight !

How to -II

If you cant get to the stem, to install a backing plate and or nuts, You can buy 3/8"-16, s.s. "toggle" nuts, that you can, install, from above deck, by drilling 3 1/2" dia. holes then with a file it square, the toggle nuts are rectangular, 1/2" x 2 1/2" x 1/2" with a plastic applicator, that draws, the toggle in position, and holds it there until you install the bolts, now if you need to, the bruce anchor roller can be positioned up to 30 degrees, from the boat's centerline.
