I am looking for a new anchor. Any Cherubini owner have a Mantus? If so, what size? How has it performed? Thanks Gang. Ed H

Just a few weeks ago there was a thread that dealt with that anchor quite extensively.

The price seems good. I have 4 danforths, including a Fortress FX37 which makes a great lunch/fishing hook but wonder if I don't need to add some kind of "plowing" one for grassy bottoms.

Clearly, with 4 danforths you are over ripe for another type anchor. We are very pleased with our Rocna 25 kg. when Mary backs down and the chain comes tight, the boat stops so suddenly I have to hang on to the forestay. No "plowing"like we used to have with the CQR in soft mud.

I bought a Mantus 25# to replace a lost CQR and it fits nicely on the new bow roller.
As to holding, its like the Rocna, it sets quickly and holds well.

Thanks Bill- It looks like your 25 kg Ronca weighs 55lbs. - do you have a hard time handling it??

Thanks GG- I am just not sure of the size I want... I do not want overkill, but I want to be secure...

Naw! I have a lewmar windlass with a hand held remote. I just push a button . There are photos on the site somewhere where I got my left hand between the chain and the chain wheel. That was painful.

Can't say enough about the 22# SS Bruce I have for my H33. For sand, mud, clay, pebbles, there are few better; some equal. I also have a CQR 35 (50% more weight than the Bruce) but not really any better for my area.

Hi Rich- Yes I noticed that beauty on your previous post... It is solid, while the Mantus is bolted together. Will those bolts still be strong after 20 years???

Ed after 20 years? keep the rust off and you will be good....
the bolts are protected from loosing the galvanized coating and maintain themselves better than any other part of the anchor....
We have a lifetime warranty... if you bend the shank we will send you a replacement anywhere in the world on our tab...
and its the best setting puppy...

Ed think about your chain in 20 years... if rust free it will be solid...
Remember Mantus has four grade 5 bolts each bigger than the chain used to attach it....

The bolts on the Mantus are a non-issue IMHO.. Remember the CQR has but ONE pivot pin that rotates and wears... The Fortress is also bolted together as is the Spade...

It would cost you all of about four dollars to replace the bolts every ten years or so if you wanted to. They are simple grade five galvy bolts.

Each bolt in the Mantus Anchor, and there are four, is usually larger than the diameter of your shackle pin, larger than the wire diameter of your chain, and, for that matter, larger the bolts on the cleat for your boat that are holding the anchor...

The nice thing about the Mantus is that it can be stowed and made ready for a storm pretty quickly. Also if you were to bend any part of the anchor Greg will ship the part to you where ever you are...
