Bit the bullet, new CU-100 ColdMachine is coming. Ordered with small horizontal evaporator. It will replace a 110V AC-only unit with cold plate. There are a couple of choices for compressor location. One is a large cockpit locker, this locker does not get engine heat but is fairly air and water tight. The other is a locker beneath the settee. Does the condensor unit give off enough heat that I would not want it in the main cabin? We are air-conditioned but only on shorepower. Both locations are well within the limit of 15 feet. I am reluctant to ventilate the cockpit locker and lose water integrity. Any suggestions are welcomed.

Install the condensing unit in the settee. The amount of heat given off is roughly equal to two average sized adults sitting on it. Ventilate it with two grills equal to the size of the air condenser, or install Adler/Barbours duct kit (part number C8079). The kit contains 3' of flexable ducting, louver and a transition shroud which mounts on the condenser. They sell for around $50.00 in most catalogs.

Just received a backorder notice.
Meanwhile I can make a cardboard template and see how it fits in that settee space. Once I shovel a foot of snow off of the cover that is. Forgot to ask about noise. Should not be a problem but my current condensor is way aft under the coaming. Never heard a thing. Thanks again.

My 37c has a cold machine compressor in the starbord cockpit locker, on the cooler level way out to the hull side. It works great in florida, couldnt be happier. yes it puts out some heat but i call it my damp rid machine! some guys have vented the intake form the cabin so air from the cabin comes into the unit but i have not bothered with that yet. Ive enjoyed reading about your boat! Ed

your note and experience. That was my original intent also. I have one in there now but way aft under the coaming. Then I read that Gene Greunder pulled in cabin air. But my boat is air-conditioned and I did not want an opening between the salon and that locker. I suppose you could use some duct work and a plenum but you would still lose some cool air to the outside. The other factor is that I throw a lot of junk in that locker. I would almost have to make a cover to keep from damaging the condensor unit. It is also where I have a starter battery and three house batteries. I just finished making a template this evening(11wx10dx7h). If the weather prediction holds I might look for a good fit this weekend.
