Hi all-

Just downsized from a 43' Wauquiez Amphitrite to a 1982 9.2C. Seems like a nice boat and I have liked the design and layout for awhile. Really wanted a shoal draft, but could not find one near me (Northern Michigan) and at a reasonable <20K price. Planning to live aboard most of the summer once I get the bottom done. Looking to purchase a trailer if anyone comes across one.

Cheers,
Jeff

You are going the wrong way LOL! You must feel a little cramped. The Wauquiez 43' is quite a boat. I hadn't even heard of that brand before.

With all your experience I am flattered that you downsized to a 9.2C. I have a 9.2A, but bought it with limited practical experience buying a sailboat. Like you, my budget was $20K and I was looking for a solid 30 foot boat to own for the long haul. After looking for a while we determined that a tee shaped cockpit was a must, which eliminated a lot of boats in our price range.

I used to like mid 80's Hunters after seeing them new at a boat show in 1986, but the build quality I was looking for just isn't there. Happened upon an S2 9.2A searching on line and recalled seeing one at that same boat show and liking it a lot. After seeing one in person I began a search and bought the best boat on the local market at the time.

The only thing about my boat I really dislike is the relatively crappy job they did on the engine beds. Care must also be taken to prevent pollution from the engine with it mounted directly over the bilge. I guess they didn't have the enormous fine for an errant discharge when they designed the boat (I have a bilge discharge filter).

I had looked for a trailer that could be adapted also. About $7000ish new or half that used. I'm going to pass for now on the trailer idea as I would have to tow the boat 100 miles.

Don't forget that 8-8.5 ft is the limit for width without wide load / signal cars...etc...in most states.

There is a place here in Michigan that will build a new trailer for 5K. I hauled hundreds of thousands of miles of 30-35' sailboat. Don't ask just GO! You will almost never have a problem with not having permitts. I was stopped 1 time in almost 200,000 miles all with 10-11' beams.
