Has anyone looked at the new 45 center cockpit? Any thoughts or comments? How does it compare to the Passage 42?

Impressive

Talked to Greg Emerson and he told be that was the prototype and there will be a few changes made for the productions series. So everyone better wait until they start producing to see what things are going to look like. Thought the center cockpit was small but to be expected for a center cockpit sinc the room is down below. Liked the galley, Joan really liked the built in coffee system. Thought the forward head would be fine for a midget, seemed small to me. Wish Hunter would do something different with the table. Always seems to be in the way. Like the table to fold up and out of the way to provide more room in the main cabin. The state room seemed to be a palace after the H356. Jim S/V Java

Agreed...

the cockpit seem very small compared to the 42 and previous 45, at least as I remember them. And the intruments basically stood up in the middle of the whole thing....enjoying a drink in the cockpit would be like dinner with one of those gigantic dinner table centerpieces that no one can see around. Aft stateroom was indeed incredible, which is what sells these boats I guess. Much improved over the earlier 45cc with the tiny little day head/master head in the companionway. What were they thinking? The forward stateroom had the v-berth, which just looked out of place on this size and kind of boat. I personally like the pullman better in the prior 45, but guess that didn't work for the general population because other newer models have gone back to the v. It was a nice boat, much improved deck lines. But I don't like the new wrap-around window up top...that smoke plexiglass. Looks like a Mac 26x, which is a fine boat but not $300k. Seems that all that black plexi will soon fade and craze and leave the whole thing looking bad. But, I'm guessing Hunter did all their research and know more than I do. What really amazes me about so many of the big new higher dollar boats is that they always put the $99 Jabsco head in it! hmmm...where's Peggy? Oh yeah, Jim...the microwave/coffe combo was nice...it's a Kenmore. Guess you can probably buy one at Sears.

We have a 2003 Hunter 44DS. The new 45 has the exact same hull as the 44. The entire forward cabin/head is exactly the same as on my 44 except the interior hull walls (are they called bulkheads too) have wood paneling instead of vinyl. and yes that forward head is tiny - you have to be a pre-pubescent teenager to fit on the potty without feeling wedged in there. Love that new master cabin. The cockpit and the salon are smaller than the 44DS which has an aft cockpit. I didn't care too much for those spaceship-looking windows either. Access to the engine room was very good and what I liked was the fact that a generator can be mounted in the same area right under the stairs. The 44DS has the generator in the port cockpit lazarette which is kind of hard to get into. There are no more flourescent lights-nice LED or halogen ones, and the bulkhead reading lamps are white frosted glass instead of plastic. I stil think that the windlass is too small for that size boat (I like tons of power up there!). I liked this boat alot...can't wait to see the 48 footer that is due out in about 1-2 years. Can you tell I spent a lot of time on that new 45!?!?!

Agree with Don's comments above. We have the 1997 P42 and this 45 is a pretty good copy of the P42 but with some drawbacks. Cockpit is smaller than the P42 and they failed to put a cushioned sundeck aft for some reason, one of the best features of the P42. The swim platform is scary. It is like a cliff with no place to sit or really stand safely. And how to install davits? Forward head, which is really the main head, is cramped for male toilet use. Galley was great, but what is the deal with the second freezer and that heavy lid. Who needs a second freezer? I don't recall any handrails on deck and the gangways down the sides were so narrow you would have to place one foot on front of the other to navigate to the bow. The deck stuck me as dangerous. Anchor well was a big improvement over the P42.

Forgot to mention . . .

The new 45 puts the circuit breaker panel behind the seat back cushion at the setee, instead of at the nav station where it belongs. What's with that? "Excuse me, would you please move? I have to turn on the hot water tank and the anchor light."
