Keel boat, no water ballast

Attended an in-water show a couple weeks ago. The dealer says Hunter is abandoning water ballast due to number of warranty issues. The new 27 is in production and will debut at Annapolis. He also talked of a new Hunter 25. When I aked him if would be ACP like the smaller boats, he said that decision hadn't been made. The 25 footer is in the planning stages now.

Water Ballast Warranty Issues?

I do not remember any issues with ballast tanks mentioned on this site except for a dealer installing a porti pottie and using screws that were too long. That is everyone’s first fear when they find water in the boat but it seems that it has always been a more benign source. I would have thought if it were that much of an issue there would be a number of postings on such.

Dealer wouldn't elaborate

I'm on my second water ballast boat, a 8 year old H26. I've never had a problem with mine. He did mention a problem with 260 rudders.

Load of crap.

I've never heard such crap. Suggest the dealer is exactly that. Desperate for a deal. If Hunter stop making the 260 I'll be first in line for the moulds.

New H27

It is true, there will be no more water ballast boats from Hunter, they will be making a new H25 and the H27 will be a 260 with a keel, my dealer told me this. Ken

270?

the 260 with a keel is a 270 right? if they are doing a new 27 I would think it would not be based on the 260 and if it is why did they stop making the 270 then??, I personaly would want a keel boat for lake erie Im not into trailering it around but thats just me . I hope the keep the 260 and make a new h27 to handle more rough water than the 260 can take. thats what Im looking for

26 long in the tooth for hunter

Hunter has been build the 26/260 (same basic idea) since 1994. I wouldn't be surprised if they decided to make a change at this point. I haven't noticed them sticking with a good thing for very long (continuous improvement, customer input, leading edge (if it doesn't cost too much) seem to be the drivers) Although, as far as I know, they still sell a ton of them ,the 26 may be going the way of the venerable 27 (which they are resurrecting?) New 27

Was talking ot a couple of Hunter dealers at the Michigan City, IN boat show this past weekend. They confirm the demise of both the 240 and 260 water ballast boats. The new 27 is a Glenn Henderson design. Scheduled to come in a basic and a deluxe version. Deluxe version will include shore power, pressure water, 18hp diesel, microwave, VHF, stereo, knot/depth, etc. Basic version will have a 9hp diesel and most of the above items will be left out. Still scheduled to be introduced at the Annapolis show in October. Niether of the Hunter dealers at the show said anything about the new 25.

Some dealers now have H-27 brochures

Our local dealer has received some brochures on the new 27 but has yet to receive any pricing. The Dealer: "It's obvious that Hunter is placing a greater emphasis on speed with their new designs."

H27

Thanks for the link to info regarding the H27. It's interesting that the Hunter Marine website doesn't have any info?!?

Hunter 27

The Hunter 27 will debut in Annapolis this year. It will come in a simple version and deluxe version. Go deluxe. That will have roller furling jib, 12 volt system of course, shore power, water pressure system, 18 hp engine, micorwave, 12v cooler, VHF, Stereo, St-40 depth and Knot, window shades, 2 burner stove, cockpit hatch, transom shower, everwear flooring, dinette table. Figure for the deluxe package above $60,000. Marine head, sheeting package,in mast roller furling, bimini, dodger, etc. are some of the items that are optional. ' You can get this in a shoal keel or a fin keel. There is no mast raising system but you can get a trailer for this bugger. If you are in the market for a 260, I suggest you find a dealer who still has one. The 240 as I have been told is no longer being built. Hunter will also be unvieling the new 25 at Annapolis too. If you want any further information, get my email and I will tell you about the new features of the 27. This appears to be something that you folks should look at.

True about demise of the 260

Since the dealers are apparently telling you the demise of the 240 and 260, that is true. The last five fo the 260 to be built will come off the line. I have my thoughts but guess what, I aint going to say nothing. I know many are still buying the 260 and I suggest that if your are looking for them, call your dealer to see if thaey have one.

too much

I can swing the price for a 260 but the 27 will be out of my price range

Mistake

I think this is a big business mistake (I might be wrong of course). The 26 and then the 260 filled a real nice niche that $60,000 just doesn't. If I have $60,000 to spend on a boat I sure as heck would not buy a new Hunter 27. Of that I can promise. There are plenty of wonderful $60,000 boats out there.

Trailer

I assume the 25 will be a trailer boat, and the 27 will not be.
