Just purchased a 2003 Hunter 260 and finally got it to the lake. Need some help regarding the topping lift, outhaul and reefing lines exiting the boom. I rigged the main today and am not sure I set them up properly. I do have the 260 manual, however I can't be sure I have them in the right order as the black & white doesn't translate too well. Looking at the stern end of the boom the colors are, from port to starboard, red fleck; white; blue fleck. The center (white) is the shortest. I set them up as topping lift, outhaul and first reefing line. I did notice that with the main all the way up it appears that the topping lift will interfere with the main sail movement as the battens may get caught. Appreciate the help. I'm sure this will be the first of many questions. Dave

I have the same year H260. The colors are not important. On my boat the reef line is red fleck, the outhaul is blue fleck and the topping lift is black fleck. Page 44A and 46B-1 of your manual shows the layout. Re the topping lift. I've never had a problem with the topping lift getting hung up on the battens. Just don't keep it too tight. As new owner you might benefit from reviewing these two links on the H260 and browsing through the archives. Thanks for the info. It was George's website that convinced me the the 260 was the boat for us vs. the Catalina 250. Previously, we had a Catalina 22 so this is a much larger boat. Tomorrow, I'll finish the rigging and if the weather cooperates, we will take our first sail! So far, we are very pleased with the boat. Dave

Toping Lift

Dave, When I first sailed my boat, I had problems with the topping lift catching on the battens - so much that one time it pulled the velcro straps open and about the time I realized there was a problem, I watched 2 battens go over the stern (they do not float). George hit on the problem. The topping lift must be very loose for sailing. I tighten it to raise the boom while the sail is not up to give more room in the cockpit, but under sail it has to be loose.

Topping Lift

Thanks Lance, I'll be sure to adjust the tension on the topping lift to eliminate the batten catching. Dave

Well hope this helps

The centre line is the outhall. The other two can be can be what ever you want but my reef line exits on the starboard side, up through the cringle and down to the boom on the Port side. The topping lift is on the port side with the end fixed to the boom with a small block on it that has a shackle for attaching to the topping lift line cum cable.
