Just bought a 1996 hunter 23.5. I am looking for a source for an owner's manual for this boat. Also any information on stepping the mast. I have always sailed smaller boats and this one seams to present some questions. It has a CDI roller furler and a gin pole neither of which I have any experience with. A step by step would be appriciated.

Mike congrads on the new boat. You can get an owners manuel from hunter. You might want to check with another 235 owner and see if you can copy his. Check out the small boat forum for answers on mast raising. It is very straight forward, and has been covered in the archives. It can be done alone without a problem. Two just makes it easier. Enjoy the new boat

Call Hunter for manual

1-800-771-5556 extension 3015. For a manual. If all the parts are with the boat it's quite easy. 1. Pick a place with no power lies over head. 2. Position the mast on the step, align the holes on the base of the mast with the holes on the step and pot the l shaped pin through, put a keeper on the end of the pin. Sometimes alignment can be difficult it,s best to have a helper near th mast crutch to move the mast (the have more leverage there then the person trying to insert the pin. 3. Place the jack pole into the hole in the base of the mast, attach the jib halyard to the top of the jack pole and cleat it off. The jack pole should lean about 10 degrees toward the top of the mast. 4. attach the main sheet to the u bolt in the anchor hatch ( the end with the cam cleat) attach the othe end to the jack pole. ( next to where you attached the jib Halyard) 5. DO NOT LEAVE THIS STEP OUT. Place the hook end of the bridle into the mast. ( it goes in one direction and the turns to seat itself in the hole. The pelican hook end attach to the bottom of the center stanchons do this for both sides. 6. Be sure all rigging is cleat and that the turn buckles are standing some what erect. They can jam as the mast is raised causing damage to the turn buckles 7. Lift the mast by pulling on the main sheet, as the mast is raised the load you have to pull gets lighter. 8. Once the mast is up right fasten the forstay tp the plate on the bow using a shackle. Remove the main sheet and put it back in the cockpit attach the boom at the mast. attach the sheet to this and attach the boom vang Remo0ve the bridles you used to steady the mast while it was being raised attach them to the jack pole so you willhave all three when you are ready to lower the Mast
