I have been fighting a varnish problem. Everytime I apply my varnish to my floor the varnish has small air bubbles in the laid material. I have tried numerous brushes, different strokes and even called minwax to fix this. I thinned the material with no help. I brought home my bilge cover and totally stripped it and applied new minwax polyeruthene clear high gloss and still have those small bubbles that i have to dab with the brush to get rid of them. There are too many to do this so I have the problem. I used a tack cloth to clean and dont believe dust is a problem. What the heck is going on here. I want a clear high gloss, reflective floor and am not getting it. Does someone have a suggestion of another product? I spent alot of time on that floor and am not willing to give up yet. thanks for your help. craig(87 34ft)

Do not stir or shake!
Craig: You should not stir or shake the polyeruthene. I have used quick drying varnish (Jet) and do not have this problem. I generally just use foam brushes. You will get little bumps, but these can be removed between coats with a little sanding or steel wool treatment. I am wondering if you are having these problems because of the high heat and humidity?

This varnish po's me
This happened in early spring where humidity is low and temps in 60's and 70's. Dont think that was the issue. Is the deck ole product at boat us? and if someone has another product that really works pleas let me know. I am kindof fussy so this is big stuff. Heck with all the other stuff that makes the boat sail, I need a good look'n floor.

water based poly
i use it on my cabin sole, strong, easy to work with and doesnt stink up the boat. its the only thing i will use now.

is the product i used this year, you can buy it at home depot or lowes, there are several brands to pick from. applying the stuff is easy, remove what you can of the old stuff and apply the new, i removed my floor boards and revarnished them in my garage over the winter(this allowed me to take my time with both the sanding and varnishing) i used both stripper and fine sand paper to remove the old varnish, be carefull the teak and holly laminant is not very thick on most hunters and you can sand away the vernier real easy. i used five coats to do mine, the stuff dries in about an hour or two, unlike oil based varnish that takes a day, and the stuff doesnt have a strong smell like varnish. light sanding in between coats and use a good tack cloth to get rid of dust and it will look great. when i first heard of the stuff i was skeptical until i got to see the interior of a 40 somthing ft freedom c.c that was done totally with water based poly (it looked amazing). over the course of the summer the boat was used every weekend and for a three week cruise, with kids and a dog, the floors still look great. to touch up all i will do this fall is a light sanding and one maybe two added coats.
