I thought I could check in http://shop.hunterowners.com/, but my browser just sits blank. I tried chrome and internet explorer.
Does anybody know if there's a system problem that somebody's fixing?
What advice do you have for inexpensive used jibs?

I have a 1976 Hunter 27, bought used 2010, the jib that came with it has visited the sailmender twice already because it hung up on the spreader and ripped. I'm guessing that any more patches will only invite more places to snag, and although the sailmaker charges only about $20 for each mend I'm sure repetitive snags and rips will only result in having a jib that's more patch than sail, plus the current trip gets ruined and the boat's unusable for the couple of days the jib gets sewn.

Measurements are foot 16' 4" leech? 30' 6" luff? front 32' 3", taped for a roller furler.
Sorry, I'm a little unsure which is leech and which is luff. I think the 32' 3" measurement was the edge that goes into the furler, but as I type this I doubt myself, and need to wait till I get the repaired sail back.

With a little patience, eBay is a great place to get used foresails at great prices. For your mainsail you might get lucky on eBay, but you'll probably need to go to one of the used sail lofts like Bacon or Second wind sails, err, if you need a mainsail.

Try looking all over eBay as well as consulting some proper sail providers such as Sailwarehouse in California. So long as you are close on the dimensions you can use other boats' sails. Nearly anything can be had for $400 if you look.

Shipping sails is cheap-- the only weigh like 15-20 lbs and can pack into a smallish bundle for UPS/Fed Ex. So don't let that deter you.

Sailwarehouse have a really terrific web presence that includes as-designed sail dimensions for all popular production boats. If for no other reason than to consult that, they're worth a look.

How is the condition of the rest of your sail -- aside from the section that has been patched? Of course I can't really tell from your picture, but the sail does have a "still serviceable" look about it. Particularly if you normally sail in calm conditions. Your sails certainly are white --I'm jealous!

By your 16'4" foot measurement, you've got a pretty large genoa for a 27' boat. It certainly will overlap the spreaders.

Did your sail guy only repair the exact tear and left the surrounding sail cloth as it was? If so, have you considered to ask for larger reinforcing patches over the entire area that is subject to contact with the spreader end? Brand new sail fabric on both sides of the contact area should take care of the problem. And new matching sunbrella over the UV strip that also is probably rubbing along the spreader each time you tack to starboard.

This is what I did for my rather old 135 genoa that was on my boat. But in my case, it was only the sunbrella UV cover area that made contact with the spreader. I sewed in a large sunbrella patch on one side, and mirrored it with new dacron sail material on the other. No further problem since.

Also, if you haven't checked, be sure that nothing on the spreader end in sharp or rough. For instance, SS seizing wire hasn't come loose.
