Need to replace sea cocks on my Hunter 45cc. What is the consensus regarding replacing with bronze or plastic. Original are bronze

Our original 1991 bronze seacocks still work with occasional lubrication. Why do you need to replace yours? Likely stay with bronze if they ever need replacing.

I recently installed Marelon series 93 seacocks and am very happy with them and really appreciate that they are self-lubricating do not suffer from galvanic corrosion.
My original thru-hull fittings were Marelon ball valves which do not meet the ABYC standards for below water thru-hull fittings in that they do not have the strength to resist a 500lb load at 90º

Reading the Series 93 description, I find the following:
  • (ISO 150/188) "Small craft-seacocks and thru-hull fittings-part 2: Non-metallic"
  • Exceeds standards for use set by the U.L. (Underwriters Laboratory) and the American Boat and Yacht Council (A.B.Y.C.)
  • 93-Series Thread Form

If you do replace bronze with Marelon, you still have whatever electrical problem which caused you to replace them plus you will have to find another method of grounding the AC/DC circuits.

The only purpose of connecting the bonding system to thru hulls is to protect them from galvanic corrosion. No metal means no need for bonding. They aren’t part of the ground circuit, or at least they shouldn’t be. The ground circuit is connected to the bonding circuit on one place just to keep everything at the same potential.

I wasn’t referring to bonding but rather to ground.
