I have an 88 C30 TR. While removing the main from the mast last Fall several of the plastic cars(?) that hold the sail to the mast track broke. I can't find a replacement in West Marine. Does anyone know what these are called, where to order them and/or what else could work as a replacement? Thanks for your help. Bill Wehmer

Sail Slides

The Catalina 30's had several different spar manufacturers over the years. Being that your slides are plastic, that rules out the early models with external track. So that being determined, your slides are either 7/8 flat or #8 metal mast. 7/8 flat slides will work in a #8 Metal Mast track, but #8 m.m. will not fit in a 7/8 track. A sailmaker will have whatever you need. if you don't have a sailmaker near you, just contact one and they can send you what you need. If you are not sure of which slide, send one to the sailmaker for positive ID.

West Marine does carry them.

West Marine does carry them. They are called sail slugs or slides and are listed in their catalog. Make sure you get the correct size to fit the groove in your mast. I'm pretty sure my 1988 C30 takes a .875 wide slide.

Think About Sewn-On

You might want to talk to a local sailmaker about how much it would cost to have new slides sewn on. I've found that the sewn on slides last longer than the screw-on type.
