Need to repair Bow Roller

Hey, its my bad. Made a mistake of sailing too close to a friend's boat. Was approaching him port to port when a strong gust of wind caught my sail. My boat rounded up to port and crashing my Anchor plus Bow Roller into his port quarter. Smashing his toe rail, fair lead, pushpit and bimini frame. Ouch!!
My Bow Roller is totally out of shape. Plan to remove it for repair. I was thinking to furl the headsail tightly around the furler extrusion, disconnect the forestay and tie it to the pullpit. Idea is the headsail may help prevent sagging (bend) of the extrusion. Of course I'll setup the Spin halyard in place of the forestay.
So is it a good idea? :D

Any comment from sailors? Is it good idea to support and prevent extrusion sagging by winding the headsail tightly around the extrusion before disconnecting the furler from forward tang? The assembly will be tie down to pulpit and left hanging from mast top.
Comments?

You can let it hang. We do it all the time when unstepping masts at haul-out with a crane and then laying the masts and extrusions on their winter supports. The extrusions flex a lot without incurring any damage or kinks.
