Twice now I have broken a switch or two on the electric panel of my H23 as I clumsily stepped into or out of the cabin. However, I can not think of a worse place to put an electical box than right where your foot will hit it as you step into the cabin, which is just what Hunter has done. My winter project will be to re-locate the electrical box, and make it larger and more service friendly. Has anyone else out there done this and what suggestions do you have regarding where I should locate it.

elect box

We have had our h23 for ten years and just this summer broke 3 toggles , seems odd after all that time we now have trouble, I am not going to relocate mine , have given some thought to a cover that would protect the switches < If I were going to relocate it I might move it around the corner to the quarter berth area . Not far to go , it would still be within reach from the cock pit ( a stretch ) . I found radio shack has a similiar toggle . The other option would be to go to a rocker type switch so you would not have to move it at all, good luck . Mike

rocker panel

Mike Bacome hit on the right idea. The location of the box is no problem. It's convenient from the #######. The problem is the easily broken toggles. Replace the box with one from West Marine with the rocker type switches which light up red when they are on. Box is the same size and everything. Piece of cake.

Here is what I did.

I needed more circuits and didn’t find anything that fit my needs so I built one. I got the rockers, fuse holders, and terminal blocks all off eBay really cheap.

Mine came with 2 of the toggles snapped off and it didn't even take me a day to break another one. Replaced with the West Marine rocker style panel - direct fit, didn't even need to drill new screw holes! I actually like the stock wood housing and the location. Hey Mike - how did the H23 Nationals go? Any pics? Sorry we couldn't make it. Trailer is not trustworthy and we are still on the steep part of the learning curve, in any case. Hope you keep it going and we can make it in the future.

Nationals

Nationals were last week. We didn't have as good a turnout as in years past for various reasons. But we still did some sailing and had a seafood boil and great social time. We'll blank out the weekend before Labor Day every year and anyone is welcome, with or without a boat.
