I have an 85 Hunter with a Maxwell #7 winch. The springs are shot and I need to get new ones and Maxwell has been out of business for awhile. Can anyone direct me to somewhere where I can just get the replacement springs? I really don't have the 400-500 for a new winch plus the marina would probably have to cut new holes in the hull. It's self tailing but I don't think that makes a differnce. thank you. mike

It is at the marina but from a similar post from back in 9/5/03 regarding what sounds like an identical need regarding a Maxwell winch, the sailor member referenced 1/8" x 1 1/4".
I found the old post on page 311 or 312 and the reply was that someone contacted somebody and got them sent but it is cut off in the reply so I can't tell who he contacted. Any help would be very much appreciated.
Maxwell is NOT out of business, they are just of of the winch business. You may want to contact them and see if they can direct you to one of their old suppliers.
Your next option may be to look at McMaster.com, they will probably have what you need.

I did send an email to arco winches and due to the time difference between the US and Australia, I haven't heard back yet. I also called McMasters and did get right through to a man who took the info and said he'd find them and get back to me. Thank you all for the replies and the useful info. I feel confident that I willl get these somehow. Thanks to your help.
