handy?

If you are at all handy, you can make them out of 1/2 x 24 inch aluminum rod or tubing available at some automotive supply stores. You will need a hacksaw, drill, and a file to shape the outer end, but it is not difficult. The size given above is for one spreader. Most stock aluminum comes in ten foot sections. I found mine at Princess Auto here in Canada.

spreader arm stock

you can also get the stock you need at home depot and some true value stores. i made a set for a friend by mounting a jig saw w/ a metal cutting blade, inverted, onto my work bench. i guess you could just use the jig saw the usual way. finish it up with a grinding wheel if you have one.

i bought some half inch stainless steel

Ya I bought some half inch stainless steel for about 20 bucks and made my own. They are guaranteed not to rust or break half as easy as the old anodized aluminum ones, that I replaced the year before.

I went to home depot and bought 1/2 inch <solid> aluminum pipe. Works great and no rust..
