Need source for parts, nearly done refit

Hi y'all nearly done with 1975 od25 swing keel refit. I need help finding a few parts. The nav lights don't work but wiring is still good. What i have is seperate red and green on the bow and of course white on the stern. West marine wants $74.99 for the bow lights and $44.95 for the stern. This site has only combo red/green for the bow. The price is exceptional-the white stern light is only $12 something! Just can't pay exorbitant WM prices and am haveing tough time finding them. I also need suggestions for portapotti-ebay has a thetford that uses batteries(6AA) to flush-any thoughts? Also, i need bottom paint supplier. I normally use WM bottomkote at around $60 a gallon but they have it now for $99. It has worked ok for me in the past. I know everyone uses Trinidad but its over $300 a gallon. I'll look around and see if I have my original port and starboard bow lights from my 32 ODay and if they show up your welcome to have them, I replaced the nav lights with LED type and I have switched from the Pettit abalative to WM abalative at half the the price and it did well for the season up north here but don't know how it would fair in Fla.

That would be nice RAD. The lights that i need to replace are the round base type, approx. 2-1/8 inch diameter flange with a round dome on top. Any thoughts about the porta potti issue? The extra capacity of 5.5 gal would be nice for cruising but i don't look forward to bear-hugging the full tank and carrying it to the facilities to dump it! Thanks, Patrick

You don't lug the tank around - you get a pumpout. More flushes with that unit than you would get with a 15 gal. holding tank.

hey knowitall, thanks for the link. There was nothing there for pumpout or anything when i got the boat. I had some bulkhead rot and redesigned the forward bulkhead to allow for a folddown v-birth exstension to almost 8 feet. I would like to install a pumpout arrangement. Have you any experience with the electric model? I have used the bellows type manual heads and always have had problems with the bellows leaking, and no rinse water. Patrick

I refitted a 1973 Oday-23 last year and this place was fantastic for finding original parts. Luckily for me it's in my back yard, but they do quite a bit of sales over the phone and the internet. The staff is great to work with and very knowlegable.

I removed the 15 gallon waste holding tank many years ago, and replace the whole system with the Thetford. Have never regretted it, and have never had any complaints from any ladies who have had the opportunity to use it either. As I said - you get nearly twice the flushes from one of these as you do with a regular marine head and holding tank.
Simple to hook up the pumpout hose to a waste deck fitting, and run the air vent line up to a fitting on the doghouse side.

A good way to get LED lighting at a reasonable cost is to buy the AquaSignal series 25 or 40 navigation light fixtures, then get the Dr. LED USCG certified replacement LED bulbs for them. This is much less expensive than getting the dedicated fixtures, and IIRC you can get the tricolor, bow bicolor, stern, steaming and anchor lights this way.

Thetford electric portpotty is model 435

It's available as both a 435 (portable, which would require carrying about 50 pounds off the boat to dump it when it's full) and as a 435 MSD. The MSD designation means it can be permanently installed and fitted for pumpout. So before bidding you need to ask the eBay seller which it is. From the limited description, I'd guess it's not an MSD model. I'd also shop to make sure his price isn't high.

Electric power for both versions is supplied by either AA or C cell batteries, I can't remember which. Because batteries have a nasty habit failing at the most inconvenient time, I'd make sure to keep a good supply aboard. Better yet, go with a manual MSD version.

If there's never been a holding tank on the boat before, installing it and fitting it for pumpout wi requires putting two new holes in the boat--one on the side deck for the pumpout fitting, the other just below the toe rail for the vent.

Once again, great information. Just what I needed, advice, links, more advice. Will research the threads given and make a decision. Just making new interior cushions, all that's needed in to find and install nav lights, scrub/sand/varnish the ext wood, then bottom paint. thanks all for the help. Patrick
