Need some enlightenment

Hi All, Just a small problem I need to fix. The overhead lights in
the main saloon cabin are off. Have power at the lights but the
grounding curcuit is open somewhere. Where does the 1972 Vega
overhead lights tie into the ground curcuit? Is it on the starboard
side in the head and sink cabinet ceiling on the bus bar? Shows white
wires connections at light grounds but does it change color to blue
at the bar? Can anyone throw a little light on this subject.Ha ha

There is an electrical diagram in the handbook, but it is hard to
read the one in files. It shows the main salon overhead
lights "earthed" on an "earthing strip" separate from the terminal
strip in the head. It is in the companionway step panel, as I
recall. (I moved mine away from there.) Alternate terminals on the
strip in the head are grounded to this same strip, in a daisy chain
manner, with blue wire. The ground device in the aft "panel" likely
has the blue wire that heads for the head attached to it. The
electrical diagram in files is for a later boat than my #712.

The connections in the original "panels" are subject to corrosion
sufficient to kill a circuit. The wire is not tinned. It's damp in
there if you have a compass portlight on the companionway step. It
helps the whole system to open the mechanical connections in there,
one at a time, & shine up the metal with a bit of fine sandpaper.
After that, I like to apply a bit of vaseline to the wire ends before
reconnecting. That inhibits corrosion without adding resistance.
This is done at the fuses and battery posts, too.

Hi
I got a high resolution image of the circuit diagram from somebody in this
group about a year ago. It¹s now located in the files section
(CircuitDiagram.gif).
