Hey all,

I recently adopted a '73 Coronado 23. The rudder had been stolen and I need to make a new one. Can anyone tell me where I can find dimensions and shape to build it correctly? Anyone happen to have blueprints that include the rudder that I could get a copy of?

Thanks!

Here's a possibility, says he's got blueprints for a Coronado 23 Mk 2 rudder assembly, for a price...

Thanks, yes, I have found that and sent an email to Justin, but have not gotten a response yet. Was kinda hoping someone could provide some simple dimensions from their Coronado 23 or Columbia 23T. I could build a functional one from just a general shape. I have found a small print of the entire side view of the boat, and will try to build something similar in shape from that if I can't get better dimensions.

The link could be a vestige of the internet, sadly.

Well, it is a boat, and "close enough" works.

The house builder builds to the nearest 1/8th of an inch, the cabinetmaker to the nearest 1/32nd, and the boatbuilder to the nearest boat. ;)

Did you find the dimensions you need for the rudder? If not, you might be able to extrapolate the dimensions from the drawings on the link below. You can take a dimension from one measurement shown and use that to get the dimensions of the rudder on the drawing.

I once saw a YouTube video that showed a simple way to build a rudder from two pieces of 3/8 inch plywood. I have been trying to find it, but so far no luck. He glued a 1 and 1/2 by 1 and 1/2 inch piece of wood lengthways between the two pieces of plywood about five inches from one side. He then glued each edge to the other edge and held the edges together with several clamps until the glue set up. It comes out in the shape of an airfoil. I assume the whole thing can then be fiberglassed. I will keep searching for the video, if you are interested in using that method.

I have attached a photo of the rudder from a 24 foot Seahorse. I will be glad to get the dimensions of it next Friday when I get back home. From looking at the two specifications on the two boats. The rudders don't look that much different in length and width.

Good luck on your project
