I have an 81' H30, and it will be pulled on the first of March. I am thinking of changing the prop to help calm the severe port prop walk the boat has in reverse. The boat currently has a two blade propeller, and I am looking for recommendations on what type of prop to switch to. Thanks!

went through this...

I had a 2 blade 13x13 that walked like crazy; switched to a 13x10 3 blade which was noticeably *much* slower under sail but made a slight reverse improvement; I then switched to a 3 blade feathering prop with an independent reverse pitch. This way you can increase the thrust to help come up to speed while reversing. That's the real trick; getting enough water flow over the rudder to steer. The feathering prop helped a lot. Give it a strong "goose" to get it moving, then cut the throttle to limit the walk. I got a CDI plastic composite feathering prop that was a good deal and I was quite happy with it.

Thanks everyone

Thank you for your replies! Time what make and model did you end up with? Also, where can I go to find out what my options and costs are?

PYI

Fred, I installed a pyi 14" 3-blade feathering prop on my '81 30' seven years ago. I made a pitch change after first year and haven't touched it since, except for annual lubrication. I highly recommend it for all of the reasons usually touted for a 3-blade feathering prop. I would rather of used a 15" but the hull clearance was a little tight. I don't remember what the final pitch setting was but if you decide to go this route let me know and I will look it up in my log.

Prop Walk

I also have a 81 H30. Came with a 13" two blade. Enough power to cruise at 5.5 knots 2800 rpm with a slimey bottom in calm to slightly choppy water. Prop walk initialy fustrating. Second year put on a 3-blade. Still walked about as bad and sailed slower but could make 6.5 knots in same conditions. Third year put 2-blade back on. Prop walk not fustrating anymore as my piloting
