I'm the proud and happy owner of an '87 26.5, and recently had a less than thrilling phone call with Hunter Marine re: general parts sources. Would like any suggestions from kindred spirits. Right now looking for a rudder collar (plastic/teflon-like shim near rudder base and cockpit interface. Thanks for any help.

Hard to Find

Hey John, Join the parts search. Haven't been able to find any parts I've needed for my 26.5. I have found some close matches at HD and surplus stores. Any sources appreciated. Glenn WindWisp

HDPE

Find High Density Polythelyne (HDPE) and fabricate your own. Check out HDPE cutting boards, which come in various thicknesses. Get cutting drills of proper size for ID hole and OD.

UHMW

I am assuming you are referring to the Ultra High Density material. It is available at McMaster Carr. I have included the link to their on-line catalog. Good Luck, Mike D

Local Suppliers of UHMWPE

John, most major cities have several industrial plastic supply houses that fabricate various items. To have them do it might get expensive however in the regular course of their business they generate scrap pieces of all types of plastics. The ones here in Saint Louis have barrels of the stuff they let me pick through. Worth a try in your area. The material you may be refering to is UHMWPE. Ultra High Molecular Weight Poly Ethylene. You can cut this stuff with regular carpenter tools though the friction you'll generate sometimes partially melts what your cutting back together. Work slowly and WEAR SAFETY GLASSES. I have also ordered tube and rod stock through McMaster Carr. Great reliable source. Jeff S/V Gail Force H33.5 1993
