I purchased a used, three or four year old, outboard which appears to be in great condition. The owner didn't have a manual and I forgot to ask about the oil to gas ratio. I think it's 50:1 but could be 40:1. Does anyone know for sure? Thanks.

Tohatsu

Probably 50:1. I think that engine is actually made by Tohatsu. Try their website. Or call a mercury dealer. Tim

Joe: I have a Merc 3.3. The owner's manual calls for a 50:1 mixture. BTW it's been a great engine for me. Tom

good idea to keep

its a good idea to run 50:1 on outboards better to much oil than not enough. the worst thing that can happen is to foul the plug. i have an old toh. 8hp with points i keep 2 or more plugs on the boat.

polluting and fouled plugs...don't over mix

Call an outboard motor mechanic....look in the yellow pages. I'll bet he says 50:1 or less. That's about 2.5 ounces per gallon. I'll also bet he says to err on the lean side rather than the rich. (leaner would be a higher ratio) So you won't foul your plugs or discharge unburned oil..
