Lost my entire rudder assembly when the boat went turtle this past weekend. The "spring" device apparently didn't work to retain the rudder when the boat capsized. Ugh. I should have drilled a hole and used a clevis pin!

Anybody have a rudder assembly they'd be willing to sell?

I think mine is a 1974 vintage hull.

I had to make a rudder once. I had lost one for a Macgrefor V22. Here are pics of the basic idea, you would want to adjust dimensions to fit your boat... I also included some pics of the tiller I made and the process for that. The last pic is the final product. I made the actual rudder blade from a piece of 2"x12" board I had left over from a deck joist. I then used an electric planner to give it a foil-like shape. That was done "by eye" and was the most time consuming part of the project. You have to take it slow.

I considered making a new rudder assembly. I have two local machine shops that would allow me to use their machines. But I decided to spend the money instead of my time and bought the new rudder parts. I'm putting it together now. And have a new tiller extension assembly on order.

This new rudder has a cotter pin hole in the upper pintle for retention, not the spring retainer. I added a second cotter pin hole to the lower pintel, AND I'm adding a tether. Three devices to prevent this rudder from becoming lost should I ever capsize again! Ugh!
