Need Moor Information :)

Been reading all the different combinations for moorings on the Internet and would like some opinions. 22 foot sailboat in abour 15-21 feet of water (tidal), in a fairly sheltered area. On the muddy bottom, sucked into the mud, is a 250 pound block of concrete. My question is...what do the seasoned sailors prefer for lengths and types of chain for this application. I'm thinking of putting a 1/2" chain on the block shackled to a 3/8" chain up to the ball swivel. Wondering what lengths of each I should use for proper scope and if these sizes sound ok for my boat. Note: There are no rules or bylaws for moorings in my area.

You might check to see what concrete weighs in water. If I recall my old US Navy Salvors guide, it's something like 40% in salt water and a little better in fresh.

i have had to rescue a tanzer 22 at the bigining of the year, the boat had no mast and was moored to a 600 pound block of ciment , the wind was about 50km hour and the whole mooring and boat ended up in two feet of water beating in the surf

mesange - was the line/chain too short and the bottom too rocky?
