I am just days away from completing my project and some lowlife has stolen my masthead and I do not know where to start finding a replacment. The mast is a Kenyon? The boat a 1987 28.5 Any suggestions????

You know that it is a Kenyon!

Marc: Are sure that this is a Kenyon? Anyway, try Rig-rite at www.rigrite.com If it is a Kenyon, I think that they can help you.

What's a mast head?

I know where the masthead is on a newspaper (no, it's not the flag atop page 1 but rather the box on the editorial page with the ownership info), but where is it on a sailboat?

Mast Head!

Bill: The mast head the the part of the spar that sits atop the actual spar extrustion. It is a cast part that is used to mount the instruments, windseeker, radio antenna, spinnaker bails etc. It is also the place where the sheaves are located for you halyard to run thru. The spar itself is just an extruded piece of aluminum (or what ever material it may be made of) that is open on both ends (like a paper towel roll). The spar is then seated on the deck on in the bilge on some sort of a plate and the top of the spar is "capped" with the Mast Head.

Yeah but, . . . .

I don't think Kenyon ever made one that was removable. The top of my Kenyon mast is a heavy solid plate of aluminum that is welded on. The sheave "axles" are removable from the sides after removing a cover plate. Sounds like a call to Hunter is advised.

Kenyon masthead

I had a 86 h28.5 and I seem to remember that it was a Kenyon spar and that it was removable. Check with Seco South up in Largo 727-536-1924.

Removable masthead on 28.5

On my 86 28.5, the mast was a Kenyon and the masthead was removable. Rig-Rite out of Warwick, R.I. has an excellent web site and you can probably order one from them. Good Luck For your info Ed, on my current boat (84 H34), the mast was also a Kenyon with a removable masthead. I had to replace it and Charleston Spars who are a current supplier to Hunter makes one that needed very little machining on the deck plate to install. This new one has a heavy cast welded masthead with a removable plate on top for access to the inside of the mast if needed.
