Hello all,

I am new here. Have been lurking and reading for a while now. After 7 years in my Pearson 26, I have finally taken the bigger boat plunge and have found a beautiful 1983 Hunter 34. This boat has been lovingly maintained and I am looking forward to many years of happy ownership. Now for my question...

I have searched but have been unsuccessful in finding out anything about replacement DC and AC lamps for the power panel. There are about half of the DC lamps out and just a few of the AC lamps out. Surely someone has had experience in replacing these lamps. Would appreciate any info on the type of bulbs required along with any tips for changing them out as well.

Thanks!

LEDs

Last year I ordered Blue Sea Systems LED indicator lamps from Defender and West Marine. I replaced all the 12 Volt red lamps and the amber 110V lamps with these LEDs. The only lamp I could not find a replacement for was the red 110V lamp that indicates reverse polarity. That one wasn't burned out anyway as it never has come on.

You will have to make an adapter to push the LED into as the lamp holes in the panel are larger. There are some plastic plugs out there from hardware stores that you could use...just drill the center to the LED diameter and push the whole thing into the panel hole.

A real benefit is that my house batteries now run noticeably longer. Depending on how many breakers I had on day and night at anchor, those light bulbs did draw a lot more current.

LED's FOR POWER PANEL

I replaced all the lights on my H-34 panel with LED's from Radio shack. Below is the link to the product. These are only $2 each, which is a deal. It takes a bit of patience and some soldering skill to get it done, but these will fit and have a nut on the backside to keep 'em in place. The old "grain of wheat" bulbs consume a lot more power than the led's. Good Luck

Ebay

If you are not too handy with a soldering iron you can buy ready made bulbs to fit just about any socket from Ebay.

I have used http://stores.ebay.com/warden-jp2002 before and been happy with him. He has a large selection and some of the lowest prices online. Shipping can take a while coming from Hong Kong but that is about the only downside I have had dealing with this seller.

Thanks for the help!

Thanks all for the ideas. Those lamps at Radio Shack look to be the ideal solution for me. Soldering is no problem. I stopped off on the way home today and picked a few up to try. They look like they will do exactly what I wanted to do. They also have some yellow 110VAC neon lamps in the same size that should do well on the AC side too. Thanks again!
