I am about to acquire a 28.5' Irwin. It seems to be a very clean boat with an atomic bomb engine (not running). The boat seems solid enough with a fixed fin keel. I can't seem to find much info about this model other than just ordinary specs. I want to know what this boat was designed for. Is it to be considered an offshore boat or a coastal cruiser. The hull looks bullet proof, but the port and starboard shrouds are double cable'd connecting to a single chainplate tells me otherwise.....? I like the interior layout, but other than the fact that it is 4,500 lbs heavier, 4' longer and 1' wider than my Neptune 24, there isn't much difference. I am looking for a boat to sail to Central America and livaboard. I don't know if this is a reasonable choice..... Thanks for your help!
