H33 Cheurbini

Many of the early Hunter boats were designed by naval architect John Cherubini. Then Hunter switched to an in-house design team so there is a distinct generation of boats largerly belonging to Cherubini's pen, hence the descriptor. I'd suggest searching the archives about issues/problems becasue this question is asked frequently and there are lots of responsess. My father bought a new H33 in 1982 and then gave it to me when he passed. I described what I had to do when I moved the boat the ME to get it insured in repsonse to someone askingthe same question last year. The owner's group is very active and helpful in solving problems if you move forward. Its a great boat and we've put lots of miles under the keel.

H33 Cherubini

I own a 1981 Hunter Cherubini 33 I purchased a couple of years ago. I am currently doing a complete restoration/refit on her so I've crawled around all of the dark places and found nothing alarming. I've not heard or read of anything in particular you need to look out for with these boats. You will, of course, get a good surveyor to take a close look at it. My boat had passed through about five owners before me. Even with the obvious signs of neglect and shoddy P.O. "improvements" she sails beautifully and always gets complemented on her lines. I replaced the original (plastic) portlights with TriMatrix portlights from NFM. The originals were breaking up from age. The rudder shaft was leaking at the stuffing box. That is primarily a maintenance issue, not a design issue. The fix was to repack it. If you have any specific questions about the 33C just ask.
