I have found an ODay 19 I may buy (not a Mariner, an ODay 19 from early 80s). The mast is stepped onto the deck, but I don't think there is a pillar in the cabin to transfer the load down onto the hull... It seems the deck alone carries all the mast's load. But since the boat is a couple hours away and I did not take photos (never go look at a boat without a digital camera), I was hoping some O'Day 19 owners can confirm for me whether a under-mast-pillar should exist or not. Thanks..

oday 19 pillar in cabin

I have a 23' 1974 built the same way. In mine, the cabin liner (fiberglass) has a channel which serves to hold a plywood doorway separateing the v-berths and head from the rest of the cabin. I think (but I don't know) that the formed channel serves as a kind of I-Beam transfering the weight to the hull at the sides. Whatever it is, it has survived for 30 years. Mel
