Oday 19 widgeon Lake Ontario
Hello everyone just got a widgeon 19 footer for a real good deal and I want to fix it up. So I need a little help the boat it self is in good condition. But it has no mast, boom and rudder. I would like to know where to look I would like to teach my children how to sail. I love the water I am a 21 year Navy Senior Chief and when I retire I want to get a larger Sailboat it will be my retirement gift. Thank you all for the help

Ummm... sailboatdata.com lists the Widgeon as a 12 footer, with 12' 4" or so LOA.

D&R probably doesn't have a mast or boom for you, but if you call and talk to Rudy, he can probably tell you which mast and boom extrusion you could order from Dwyer Mast.

Also, if Rudy can't get you into a rudder, you can probably get something from www.ruddercraft.com.

I hope that boat was a good deal, something like: they paid you to take it, because replacing a mast, boom, rudder, and probably standing rigging won't be cheap. And the sails may be old and baggy, so you might as well replace them too... You can get inexpensive Novabraid XLE double braid polyester for running rigging from www.sailcare.com. It's a bit cheaper than New England Sta-Set.

I agree with Brain S. You should price out the missing parts first before making any offer on a boat. I know I can sell those missing parts off my C22 and probably make money over what I paid for the boat, motor and trailer together. Another good example is on my Force 5. I needed a daggerboard and someone was parting out his. He wanted $150 for it. Heck, I bought my complete boat used for $250! I ended up repairing my old split daggerboard using wood dowels running down the split. Strong as ever now.

D&R used to build the WIDGEON between 1990 and 2006, so Rudy most likely has all the parts needed. However, the most expensive boats around are the "FREE" ones. The cost will be more than buying a complete used WIDGEON, unless you can locate used sails and spars. Rudy might have some ideas, so a call to D&R is not the worst idea (508) 644-3001 to check. For reference, used WIDGEONs are priced between $250.00 and $2000.00 (condition, model year, and owner's perceived value are the reasons for the range).
A few years ago, I fought off temptation and passed up buying a Widgeon "kit" that Rudy had for sale ($200), an owner had started to do a complete restoration and gave up after disassembling the boat......... boy do I wish I had had that $200.00 to spend!! (Rudy said all parts were there including used sails, if I remember correct?) Someone must have bought the boat since it wasn't there the next time that I visited.
