Xylene is most common in adhesive remover, the *only* stuff that gets duct-tape and masking-tape residue clear. It is a popular solvent not quite as potent as acetone but will not evaporate as quickly. You can buy it at Lowe's, Home Depot, etc.

Use with common sense & caution.

Xylene is a solvent used to thin ablative bottom paints like Interlux Micron CSC. Interlux calls it "Special Thinner 216" so they can charge around $18/quart. On the back of the can it says: "Contains: Xylene" No other ingredients are listed, so it's 100% Xylene. Its vapor is harmful ...

The *.pdf for Pettit noted in an earlier post lists Xylene as the largest component. But the Pettit thinner also contains naptha, benzene and some other hazardous chemicals.
