I just recently purchased a Capri 25 that was sitting unused for 13 years. At the bottom of the hull where the sink drain is located there is no grommet/bezzle (I dont know the real term). It is just simply a hole drilled into the hull. Is this how it came from the factory or was there originally a grommet there? I would think that water would seep into the laminate layers and create problems if there is not a protection surrounding the hole. Thanks in advance to anyone who replies! Karen

There is a piece missing.

Called a thru-hull fitting.

In addition to the thru hull fitting

there should be a valve that you can close to keep water from coming up into the sink. The thru hull fitting can be made of plastic or bronze. Karen, you are also quite right about that unprotected hole causing de-lamination and breakdown of the hull material. The best fix for this involves coating the rough edges with marine epoxy (West System is easy to use), let that dry, then seat your thru hull fitting with a caulk like 3M 4200. Good luck.

thru hull fitting

Aha! I knew there had to be a thru-hull fitting there and was baffled why it was not. Well then, that gets added to the list of "to do" things before launching. Yes there is a valve and the hoses are all attached there under the sink, funny thing it looks like a regular garden hose attachment (the round handle style) and not the lever style. It will be replaced as well, as it is frozen in whatever position it is in - open or shut, who knows. Thanks so much! Karen
