HUNTER 37 CUTTER PANHANDLE OF FL
I'm Considering The Purchase Of A 1979-1986 37' Hunter. I Would Appreciate Any And All Advice, You Can Give Me. I've Never Been On Or In One! I Just Have A Feeling It's The Boat For Me.
Any Pictures Or Advice Would Be A Big Help. I'm Trying To Get Something In The Panhandle Of Florida, or close to it(tampa, st. pete) As That's Where I Hope To Keep Her.
Please Advise!
Again, Any And All Pictures Would Be Great!
Thanks Alot,

Jim

Look under the Boat Info tab. There should be plenty of info there for your review.

Get the newest model available. The engines in the newer models were generally improved over the original boats.

Cannot tell you much other than you will either like the boat or not once you see one.

Holding tank can/will be a problem if they have not been replaced.

They are very nice sailing boats if that is what you are looking for.

Hunter 37-cutter, '79 41 23' 30"N 82 33' 20"W--------Huron, OH
H37-cutters. . .

were built from 1978 through 1984. The late '84 boats were designated 1985s. There are only five boats for sale on Yacht World in the U.S. and seven more in Canada or elsewhere. The closest to you is in Port Charlotte: http://www.yachtworld.com/boats/198...hoal)-1891723/Port-Charlotte/FL/United-States .

Early boats had the heavy but bulletproof "QM" Yanmars, either the 2QM20 or 3QM30. They had eleven opening ports and the mainsheet is on the bridgedeck in front of the companionway. My 1979 is one of those.

Beginning in 1982 they put in the large fixed windows and fewer openers. The mainsheet traveler was moved to the cabin roof. I am not sure when the engines were changed. Many, including my own, have been repowered.

The common features are: cutter-rigged, keel-stepped mast, heavy construction and very seaworthy, good traditonal lines, smallish interior(no aft cabin, only a quarterberth), shower separate from head, vanity sink and cabinetry across from the head, not propane equipped and hard to find a place for propane lockers for upgrade, nice galley with large icebox but poorly insulated(many owners have added refrigeration units), and finally they are all fast and fun to sail.

Besides the owner reviews that Steve mentioned there are lots of projects and pictures in the "knowledgebase" under "Boat Info".

Jim:

I do not own a Hunter 37C. I have owned a Hunter 25 Cherubini back in 78'. Since then I have owned a 1985 H'31 and 1994 Hunter Vision 36.

All of these boats have been great boats. The 31 had the traditional compression post problem but that was basically it. 3 boats and all Hunters, no complaints, no blisters. I am a happy Hunter owner.

Hunter 37

Jim,
I am probably the only original owner of a 1979 Hunter 37 left in the world. My boat is coming up on her 30th birthday. I have done extensive modifications to the boat over the years. You can read about them on the Hunter Owners Website. I would also be glad to talk to you on the phone after the first of the year. I am presently out of the country. My boat is located in Bradenton, FL. I will say that you cannot find a better ocean going sailboat as long as you get the deep draft model. You can contact me at RBSAILS@AOL.COM.

We had a 1979 37 cutter in our family for 17 years. Great boat. Highly recommend it. Sails great. We used it all the time and finally moved up to the Hunter P42 in 1997.
