I have a Yanmar 3ym30 the owners manual states to change the Marine gear oil. The oil has to meet or exceed KM2PT_1 s, (g) (gg) API sevice cataegories CD or higher .SAE Viscosity # 20 or #30. I went to my local marine store and they tried to sell me quicksiver out drive oil. What are other people using.

Well - not to worry.
API means American Petroleum Institute. CD means compression motor - diesel (contrasted with SD which is spark motor -gasoline) SAE viscosity is oil weight - here single-grade 20 or 30 (contrasted with 15W40 - multi-grade.)
So - check you manual and the tag on the transmission too - but what you describe is just single grade 20 or 30 weight diesel motor oil. No need for anything marine, nothing special, available at any auto parts store.

Oh - I forgot to mention - CD is an obsolete designation so you will see CH-4, CI-4, or CJ-4 on the label instead of CD.

Yanmar / Kanzaki spec the same oil as used in the engine. Use single weight #30.

Thanks to all I willl use the 30 weight deisel. PS I found several 3ym30 owners manuals on the web last night with different versions of the marine gear oil and different pictures of the engine. Example my engine has two places to fill engine oil, on top and next to the dip stick. In the owners manual I have the picture shows only the one next to the dip stick.

I use Shell Rotella multi viscosity 15-40 W in my yammer 3YM30. Rotella is a commercial grade oil suitable for diesels. Check the ID plate on your transmission; mine specifies 30 W oil. Any grade of 30W oil will be OK, but don't use multi viscosity in the transmission. I usually buy both oils at Walmart. David
