Need help in determining model and year of an older daysailer. I believe it is a DSII. Difficult to read HIN (metal tag center of transom) looks like Hull #3048 "class # 5692". Appreciate any help in identifying - need to order sails and some rigging components. Also info on source for rigging. looks like a great boat to restore.

Well, first the good news.... the sails were pretty much standard from Class# 1 to class# 15000 of the Day Sailer.
The numbers that you quote for Hull# and Class# though don't add up, there has to be another digit in that hull#. Hull# refers to total O'DAY sailboat production (all models) and CLASS# refers to how many of that Class were built (Day Sailer in this case) My 1969 WIDGEON was Hull#22698 and Class# 1791 (22698th O'DAY built and 1791st Widgeon.)

Your best source of "Day Sailer specific" parts would be D&R Marine www.drmarine.com (508) 644-3001. Rudy at D&R was the Parts Dept. Manager at O'DAY from 1973-89 and now runs a little "mom & pop" store selling O'DAY Parts. He sells sails as well (generic OEM sails, same as what O'DAY originally supplied with the boats, Neil Pryde brand) and prices are pretty good! He is better at answering phone calls than e-mails.

The Class# that you list sounds like it would be an early (1971-72) vintage DS II..... but O'DAY was stilll building both the DS I and DS II at that time and there was no separation of Class#s, they were numbered as they were built. However..... you mentioned that the metal tag is on the transom (I assume inside cockpit?) That leads me to think this is a DS II ,since the DSI had the tag mounted on the flotation tank in the bow.

There are several DS II owners on this list (including me!) and you can also get info on the Day Sailer Class Association Web site (www.daysailer.org).

If you need further guidance, let me know. I also have an expanded version of the O'DAY Owners Manual for the DS II. I could make you a copy?
