My family is thinking of buying a sailboat for short 3-4 days trips by sea along the Pacific coast of Russia. 25 feet seems quite suitable. One of the sellers is offering a 25 feet cruiser with an inboard diesel engine. He says it is a 1990 25' Yamaha that came from Japan. I attached a photo of the cruiser to this message. However, I am neither sure it is Yamaha, nor that it was built in 1990 due to its shape that looks most typical of 1965-1970's to me. Can someone help me identify the make and the model. I would really appreciate any assistance. maybe?

Andrei, I think you may be right regarding the vintage of this boat. My 1978 Yamaha MKII is much more refined than this boat. Look on the port transom to see if there is a serial #. That is where mine is and starts with "YAM" then digits from there on.I've seen pictures of a few early Yamahas that have similar lines. the Fwd hatch hinges are unique and look like the origionals that were on my boat, Also the tapered lifed line stachions seem to be unique to yamahas. Visit Bob's yamahasailboats.org for pictures of the interiors and look for similar design features. Most unusual is the engine being forward under the large V berth in the 25mkII have fun finding your dream boat! Lyn

Probable

Andrei: I believe you may be correct in stating this is an earlier version of a Yamaha 25 made by Yamaha motors. I believe I saw one on a Japanese website a few years ago. Check out Yamaha and For sale in Japan on Google and you will probably find one that looks like it. Most of us on this forum are familiar with the Yamaha 25 that was imported to the US and Canada, and it did not look like the one in your photo. George
