How I Fixed Port Window 1983 Hunter 31

Need help with Fixed Port Window 1983 Hunter 31.
The window has been leaking in the corner.
I removed the caulking around the window and I was able to the push the window out from the inside.

The current window was way to small for the actual metal frame.

There was rubber on the sides of the frame as you can see from the pictures but the bottom and top had no seal It appears the rubber seal really had no purpose since the actual window sits inside a metal frame. I think someone has modified the original window and did not do a very good job.

If anyone has any pictures of how the rubber seal should fit also where to get the rubber seal. I would appreciate it very much.

When my windows started leaking I replaced the plexi-glass with new Acrylic ones. I attached them with Dow 795 caulking.
I couldn't find the rubber seals that were OEM. The windows no longer leak. They were badly crazed and brittle.
I can see though them now

I removed and restored my fixed ports a few years ago.The details are in the Modifications section. Looks like the same kind of frame.

Modifications can be found under the "boats info" tab at the top of the page. Just click on it and then select the boat you have.

Richard article above was a huge help on removing the windows, exactly as described.

I cleaned the heck out of the windows and decided to go with butyl tape rubber to attach the frame to the deck.
First after removing from the boat I put plastic over the holes, and took the frames to the local glass shop and had them make a custom piece of Lexan for the frame. Next I took the rubber and frame to local custom shower shop and they had the exact rubber for the frame. I one piece of rubber in the frame all the around. Not sure if my outer frame was broken but it was 2 pieces.
I ordered butyl rubber from:
http://www.pbase.com/mainecruising/butyl_tape
I put 2 strips of butyl rubber around the entire outer frame on each edges that contact the outer hull and the inside edge of the frame.

Then I set the frame in place and before putting the bolts, carefully slid in the tight fighting lexan. I then put in the screws some of them were loose and just spinned. I went got a ton of screws some a little longer some a little thicker and some thicker and longer. Each screw had to really grab because you have to use it squeeze out the butyl rubber slowly takes several days of slowly tighting the screws do not do it all at once!!!!

Next I painter taped off the window and this is the tough part I used west marine clear silicon. You also want a spray bottle of denatured alcohol. To get a good clean look you have to be fast. It helps if you have 2 people and divide the jobs.
1.Put the a thick line of silicon all around the edges of the glass.
2. Peel off the tape
3. Spray the silicon with denatured alcohol.
4. Spray your finger and smooth with your finger you get one swipe, DO NOT GO BACKWARDS OR IT WILL LOOK AWFUL AND DO NOT KEEP MESSING WITH. YOU ONLY HAVE ABOUT 30 SECONDS.

***You will only need about 3/4 of the tube for one window practice on something small so you can see how silicon works again use the denatured alcohol works to stop the sticky***

I HAVE NO MORE LEAKS!!!!
